Modal analysis validation – in practice
In a recent post, we mentioned how DIC can be used for modal analysis validation by comparing the measured field with a finite element simulation. A practical exercise was proposed to us by INTES: how to export results to a simulation pre-post, in this case that of the PERMAS software?
In this case, we have chosen to export the measurement results in UNV format, the universal format initially defined for the IDEAS software. These results can be imported directly into the PERMAS interface, here in the EDU version.
The software directly imports modes estimated by DIC and superimposes them on modes estimated by simulation. The tool can also be used to animate the modes to visualize the movement of the structure:
Finally, we can also display the MAC matrix comparing measured and calculated modes, to quantify correlation.
For those who want to test these features, the example is available on the Permas4Edu GitHub repository.
